that time of year

Well, I don't know about yall, but I am getting very excited about this time of year :) I LOVE Christmas and have been extremely ready for it to get here all semester. Every time I hear Christmas music playing in stores or on TV (which is already happening constantly) I get giddy with excitement :) I even love the cold weather ... as long as it's not too windy ... I love bundling up and just taking in the cold air. Before Christmas comes, though, we have Thanksgiving. And I'm just as excited to eat some of my family's cooking! (I'm also excited to take a break from school, obviously). When we get back, we have just one regular week of classes left! And just one issue of The Herald ... then finals. So, enjoy your break! whether it's riot or not ...

Howdy folks.

If you haven't read it yet, today's Herald includes a follow-up story about students involved with the so-called riot at The Grove apartments Nov. 4. Several students are planning to file complaints with the Jonesboro Police Department over the way police handled the incident. They say police caused things to get out of hand and started arresting people for no real reason.

In case you haven't been keeping up, this story has been receiving national attention! How crazy is that. I found today the story posted on MSNBC. In the story, it is discussed BEFORE a similar incident that took place in New York.

Some students involved have also been posting their sides of the story in all different places and sending out e-mails.

We've also been getting lots of comments on our Web site.

counting down the days

Sorry, I haven't had a lot of time to blog lately! It's that time of the semester when everything is due, but there's no time to do it! It's also coming down to our very last issues of this semester's Herald. I know you're sad, aren't you? :) Well, there's just four issues left. That's right, four! And you know what that means ... school is almost out! I don't think I have ever been as anxious for a semester to be over. Not that I haven't enjoyed my time as Editor-in-Chief :) But my, how it will be nice to lay on the couch, eat home-cooking and watch Christmas movies. I'm definitely looking forward to a little R & R. What about you? What are your plans for the break??

...democracy in action

Well, today is the day. After nearly two years of campaigning, it ends today. I just cast my vote about an hour ago, and it felt pretty good. I've been vocal about elections since I was a kid, but this was my very first time to cast my presidential vote. (In case you don't know, it went to McCain). I'm still hoping for the comeback King to pull through tonight!

By the way, has everyone picked up our election edition? They're on newstands all over campus. There are stories on student involvement in the campaigns, first-time voters, the candidates' stances on the economy and Iraq and the results from our campus-wide survey. I must admit; I think the paper turned out pretty well!

AND I just posted online an interview with presidential candidate Ralph Nadar. He answers 10 questions submitted by college newspapers.
